Georges Matthieu was a French abstract painter, and considered one of the founders of lyrical abstraction. Lyrical abstraction, in contrast to geometric abstraction, is known for its organic forms and lack of premeditation by the artist. There is no reliance on preexisting shapes or reference.

David Benjamin Sherry’s series of monochromatic photographs of the American West drew inspiration from Group f/64 – a collective formed in 1932 including photographers Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Ruth Bernhard and other notables. While they scorned photo manipulation, Sherry manipulated his photography through a darkroom process to create a more colorful version of the West.
